Ireland is the country known for the warmest of people.
Country pubs, live music, great craig (cannot be translated, must be
experienced!) amazingly rugged landscapes, Guiness and oysters and vibrant Dublin. Ireland has
something for everyone and is one of the most welcoming cultures you will ever
experience.
Although most of the host
families in Ireland live in or
near Dublin, we
have some families who are based in the countryside and even a few families
with horses. Let us know if you are flexible about your location and let us
find you a host family in ‘the real Ireland’ and enjoy an experience you will
never forget!
As you do not have a language to learn, you
can concentrate on exploring. There is so much to see and do in Ireland and as
an au pair you get a chance to experience it all at your leisure. Ireland is best
enjoyed at a relaxed pace!
If you are an active and outdoor person, you
will love the choice for things to do when you holiday in Ireland. The breathtaking
scenery and landscapes await outdoor enthusiasts. The perfect invitation for
hiking, biking, riding or even surfing is there in all corners of Ireland.
Hikes or all levels are easily accessible
and there are plenty of places to stop along the way for a pint and a pub
lunch. Horse riding is a popular sport in Ireland, you can go and see the
races on day and have a go at riding yourself another. And the surf is wild and
wet in Ireland.
Donegal in the North is famous for it, make sure to bring your wetsuit!
If you enjoy music, you will never be far
from it in Ireland.
From opera and theatre to big music events such as the Cork Jazz Festival to an
ad hoc musical performance in the local pub, the Irish are passionate about
music. It is not uncommon for someone to just bring an instrument to the pub
and initiate a spontaneous sing-along to last until the early hours and may
even get some of the locals to perform a traditional dance or two.
When it comes to Heritage
and History, Ireland goes back a long way. To
discover historic Ireland
you never have to go far, as history is all around you. There are Castles and
historic houses all over and many are open to the public. Visit castles from the Norman times such as Kilkenny Castle
and unique Viking city walls around Waterford
City, where you can also
visit the famous Waterford Crystal factory.
