The ideal destination for tourists, gap year travellers and of course au pairs and tutors!

In France, you have a chance to experience everything in one country, from the Capital Paris, know for romance and culture, to the seaside, both on the rugged Atlantic coast to the sophisticated Cote d’Azur on the Mediterranean. And then of course you have the French Alps, with world renowned ski resorts such as Chamonix (Mont Blanc), famous sights like Versailles and the Provence in the South of France with the lavender fields and the olive trees.

There is so much to France, starting in Paris where life is always full of action. There are so many ‘must see’ attractions such as the Eifel Tower, the Champs Elysees shopping boulevard, Louvre museum and the Notre Dame church. But even more interesting are all the areas of Paris that the short break tourists never get to see.

France is known for fashion; from the glamorous and vast department store of Les Galleries Lafayette’s to the numerous boutiques in all different areas of Paris, some of the areas are ultra chique with the big fashion names such as Chanel and Hermes but equally fashionable are some of the more bohemian areas. The choice is yours and if you are there for longer you can actually do it all!

Food is a feast regardless of your location in France. From the modest breakfast with a crusty baguette or a mouth-watering butter croissant with a café-au-lait to the gourmet lunch, an event for which most French workers still actually take there time, rather then work through with a sandwich at the desk to the long convivial dinners. Food brings people together in France and mealtimes are an important part of social life, together with the actual food. The country that invented Champagne, perfected Boeuf Strogarnoff and Michelin stars for top restaurants. Each area of France will have certain foods it’s famous for, from the dairy of Normandy in the North to the Mediterranean dishes with tomatoes, olive oil, lemon and plenty of herbs. Oysters are a real favourite on the Atlantic Coast. With a bit of luck, your host family will introduce you to many foods and may even teach you to cook a few interesting dishes.

There are many areas of France, all very different. Amazing cities such as Lyon, Marseille, Cannes and Nice are must see destinations. Most of our Au Pairs and Tutors are placed with families in Paris. Paris is right in the Center of the country and the train network is excellent, so it is easy to see many other areas from your base in Paris and also very easy to travel to other European countries.

If you are fortunate to be in the host family during their holidays, they may take you to the coast or the mountains. Many French families enjoy their own country so much; they only travel overseas for their holidays occasionally!
