Why au pair Australia?
Australia and especially Adelaide
is the ideal place to be an au pair – improve you English whilst you
earn some money to travel and experience new and exciting social
situations.
Why not join our Adelaide Au Pair Club to make the most of your time here?!
Life in Australia is totally
different from anything you will have ever experienced before. Much as
we do not want you to think au pairing is ‘easy’ or a ‘paid holiday’,
if you enjoy spending time with children and being active, your role in
the family will be great fun. Adelaide is a little bit off the main
tourist trail but full of International Students. It has been voted one
of the best cities in the World to live in. And, after all, you are not
a tourist, you are here as a local, even better!
Here are some of the things Australia is famous for:
Australia
is one of the world's most popular destinations for tourists and gap year
travellers. The Working Holiday Visa makes it easy to combine travelling and
being part of the local community at the same time and you can live as a local
as a member of the family on the au pair program.
Here are some of the things that Australia is famous for.
Beach, sea and watersports
The beaches – From the famous Bondi beach near Sydney to some of the most remote
beaches; from the busy surf beaches with imposing waves to the relaxed and family
friendly; there is a beach here to suit every mood and every taste. And because so many beaches are near the city;
it does not need to be a daytrip, in fact, many Australians head to chill on the
beach after a busy day in the office!
The beaches here are generally kept clean and safe. Many beaches, especially
those near cities and towns have there own Surf Life Saving Club to patrol the
beaches and keep swimmers safe and informed. Many of the Life Saving Clubs also
offer an inviting Clubhouse open to non-members for food & drinks.
The beach is a great place to meet up, spend an hour or an entire weekend,
bring a towel and a drink or maybe a picnic and a barbeque. Many places have picnic
tables near the beach or even public barbeques you can use if you do not have your
own.
The sea is a wonderful place to explore also; if you are adventurous and
fit, why not try your hand and learning to surf? Or maybe scuba diving or a sea
canoe trip are more your thing. And if all this sounds too much like hard work
you can simply enjoy a boat trip or even a cruise along the shores and in some
places there are dolphin and whale watching trips you can take.
Food & Barbeques
The food in Australia
is abundant and of excellent quality, much of it is local as there is such a huge
variety of home grown products to choose from. In addition to your usual beef
and chicken, you may try a kangaroo or crocodile steak on the ‘Barbie’, seafood
is also available in abundance.
The Barbie and outdoor eating is part of everyday life and not just for
special occasions or the weekend. Most ‘dinner parties’ are relaxed events
where everyone brings something along and food is enjoyed together in a relaxed
environment.
Sports
From a simple game of cricket on the beach to the sophisticated golf courses
with their amazing landscaping, Australia
has it all. The weather naturally draws people outside and Australian children
are lucky to have the space and the weather for sports. If you can, why not try
to get tickets for one of the many sporting events, maybe a day at the races or
possibly ‘Aussie rules’ or a surf competition, there is so much to choose from.
It is also generally easy to join a sports club or a team, even if you are here
for a short amount of time, most places will afford you a warm welcome and it
is a great way to meet like-minded people.
Adelaide and South Australia
Our agency is based in South Australia but
we place au pairs all over Australia.
As soon as we know where you will be placed, we will make sure you get as much information
as possible to ensure you get to see and experience your destination.
South Australia
is slightly ‘off the main tourist trail’ but actually has a lot to offer. There
are lots of beaches all along the coast and the stunning Ayre Peninsula,
as featured in the beautiful movie ‘the boys are back’ with Clive Owen was
filmed here.
The local beaches are all sandy and range from the lively ‘resort’ of
Glenelg, ideal for the young crowd who like it busy and lively, to the highly
sophisticated Henley Beach area and the sporty and uncomplicated Brighton and Semaphore beaches. West beach in between is
possibly the most unspoiled, with Dunes right behind the beach and a path for
cycling and walking going through the dunes connecting Henley Beach and
Glenelg. Further south the calmer sea makes way for the big waves and the big
surf, near Victor
Harbour there are plenty
of surf beaches and there is whale watching in the winter, if you are lucky you
can even see the whales from the beach!
Adelaide is
a small city and easy to navigate. There is a lot of parkland just around the
main city Centre or CBD (Central Business District) and the grid system means
you generally do not need a map to get around, There is a free ‘loop-bus’
around the city centre and there are free bicycle available for the day. Many
of the museums are free as is entry to the Botanical gardens, so there is a lot
to do even if you are on a low budget.
There is plenty of nightlife too, both in central Adelaide and in Glenelg, the bars and clubs
are open until late (or early) and with a large international student
population there are lot of young people socialising. Eating out is affordable
and there is so much to choose from, Chinatown
has an abundance of great food at bargain prices.
Nearby there is a lot to explore also. Nearby Kangaroo Island is a must with
its unspoiled wildlife, our Au Pair Club organises excursions with overnight
camping to make sure you can enjoy the unique experience without having to
rush. And even nearer to the city there are plenty of unique natural
experiences, there are dolphins which can easily be reached by canoe and the
starting point of the trip is just 20 minutes by bus from the city centre. Adelaide also has a zoo and in 2009 two pandas arrived
from China, so visitors to
the Adelaide
zoo get a unique opportunity to see these magnificent and rare creatures.
Nearby Cleeland park is ideal for Kangaroo and Koala encounters and it is one
of the few places where you can still touch them and actually share their
space.
People!
Let’s not forget the Australians! Australians tend to be very open and
friendly and are used to people from all over the world visiting and staying.
Talk to many Australians about their ‘roots’ and you may find that there
grandparents came from Europe too!
Aussies are very family orientated and will often entertain friends at home.
They like to socialise and party and don’t be surprised to be invited, even if
you are unable to return the invitation because you are travelling, just bring
a bottle and your best smile and enjoy!
