AU PAIR TRAINING COURSES

Our program fee for Australian au pair candidates includes our accredited on-line au pair course FREE of charge (normally £60!).  Scroll further down the page for First Aid, highly recommended for all au pairs, nannies and tutors as part of the preparation for the program. 

Online au pair training course - included in our fee!

Smart Au Pairs has contributed to the creation of new au pair course which has received UK accreditation through the OCN, the Open College Network. The course is designed by Milton Keynes Language Center and is completed online.

The course is designed to be a 30 hour course set out over 4 sections, covering topics such as
  • Getting To Know Your Family,
  • Health & safety,
  • Food & Recipes and
  • ‘Out & about’. 
Throughout the course you will have access to support from a tutor plus a student forum. At the end of the course, when all the assessments/tasks have been completed successfully, an official certificate will be issued.

The au pair training course is one unit of a larger course titled ‘British Culture’; other units in the course being: British business etiquette, British heritage, People in history and Famous Britons.

The training course is sold by MKLC at £60 including exam fee and OCN certificate of the qualification.

As the course material is in parts specific to being au pair in Britain, we issue additional information for our other destination countries to make sure every au pair has sufficient information to get started!

Course Name: Babysitting
Course No.: BBSC
Award: Statement of Attendance is given at the completion of the Babysitting component. A Statement of Attainment is given at the completion of the Essential (Basic) First Aid.
Description: Participants are encouraged to develop and strengthen their knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues. It is classified as a non-certificated course.
Content: - Essential (Basic) First Aid
- Safety and care of baby/child
- Meals, snacks and activities
- Sitters' responsibilities and safety
Duration: 12 Hours
Assessment Method: Continuous assessment with formal written multiple choice paper for Essential (Basic) First Aid.
Prerequisite: There are no prerequisites for this course

Course Name: Emergency First Aid For Parents & Carers
Course No.: FACC
Award: On successful completion of this course participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit of competency from the Health Training Package, HLTFA201A - Provide Basic Emergency Life Support.
Description: This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to carry out emergency first aid for life threatening injuries and illnesses involving infants and young children. It is designed for childcare workers as well as parents, grandparents and other caregivers.

There are no prerequisites for this course. Current industry standard is for this course to be updated every 3 years with the CPR component being updated every 12 months.

Content: - Chain of survival
- Assessing the situation
- Signs of life
- Performing CPR
- Demonstrating the use of an automated external defibrillator
- Care of the unconscious person
- Special techniques for children and Infants
- CPR in special circumstances
- Breathing Emergencies including choking and Asthma
- Shock
- Severe Allergic reaction
- Bleeding and wound care
- Burns and scalds
- Bites and stings
- Infection control
- Reporting procedures
Duration: Minimum 7 hours
Assessment Method: Demonstration of practical skills, role plays, case studies and a written quiz.
Prerequisite: There are no prerequisites for this course
